Asheville Art Museum

The Asheville Art Museum, established in 1948, is undergoing a major renovation and expansion that is expected to be completed in 2018. While the renovation is underway, the museum is closed but is opening pop-up displays of its collections at various points around Asheville, including a temporary site called Asheville Art Museum on the Slope at 175 Biltmore Avenue. When reopened in summer 2018, the main museum will keep the footprint of the old Pack Library, a 1926 Italian Renaissance-style building, but with a contemporary glass entry and art-filled, free-to-the-public gallery and atrium. The new galleries will display more of the museum's permanent collection of American art since 1860, with the emphasis on Southeast regional artists, including those from Black Mountain College.
